Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Prepare for work
   • Identify and follow work health and safety legislative, and organisational requirements
   • Correctly interpret work orders and confirm job requirements
   • Select and check tools and equipment for suitability, serviceability and safety prior to use
   • Plan application with respect to specified film thickness and/or consumption, cutting in, boundaries, seams, joints and exit points
2. Prepare substrate
   • Inspect condition of the mechanically prepared subfloor and confirm suitability for required finish consistent with manufacturer recommendations
   • Remove dust and debris from the substrate prior to application, and control sources
3. Set out work area
   • Establish mixing area in suitable area and select surface protection measures and apply to areas not being coated
   • Check coating materials for correct quantities, undamaged packaging and no obvious discrepancies in colour and viscosity
   • Select suitable masking tape and correctly apply to mark off edges, transitions and other floor boundaries
4. Prepare rollcoat system
   • Correctly fit personal protective equipment (PPE) before coating materials are handled
   • Accurately measure and mix component quantities in accordance with supplier instructions
5. Apply rollcoat system
   • Apply mixed basecoat in accordance with supplier application notes
   • Prepare cured basecoat for topcoat application in accordance with supplier application notes
   • Apply mixed topcoat in accordance with supplier application notes
   • Check coating applications for quality at each stage and rectify any deficiencies
6. Complete housekeeping
   • Check, clean and store tools and equipment in accordance with workplace procedures
   • Seal and store unused coating materials in accordance with supplier instructions
   • Clean work area and dispose of rubbish safely
   • Accurately complete required workplace and project documentation
